We stopped by the Wydown on a sunny Sunday morning after I was desperately craving a vanilla iced latte and an everything bagel. Bad news? I didn’t get an everything bagel. The Wydown doesn’t have a ton of food options, which is fine, and what they do have is a bit on the pricey side (like a small croissant for 2.95). However, I did get a pretty amazing vanilla iced-latte.
We were on the 14th street location which, like most places on 14th, is pretty long and narrow. Seating is pretty sparse but there are a couple of high-tops outside, 3 high-tops inside, and a large booth area. Like I said, it’s pretty small but we managed to secure a high top near the coffee-art wall.
My vanilla latte was incredibly smooth. Although it was a bit pricey, it wasn’t any worse than Starbucks. The Wydown, for such a small place, was very well staffed and we had to wait almost no time in line, or even for our coffees.
I loved the feel of the shop and everyone seemed very friendly and eager to help. Like I said, my coffee was very smooth but the vanilla was a bit light for my tastes. However, it should be noted I’m a massive fan of sugar and basically anything short of a sugar-cookie typically fails to meet my sweetness quota. That being said, I had to put very little sugar in this latte, as compared to most, and didn’t find it bitter at all.
One more thing to note? You won’t want to spend a day here writing, surfing the internet, or even instagram. They don’t have wifi, in order to better ensure more human interaction. It’s a nice idea, and didn’t bother E and I, as we were just stopping in for coffee before shopping, but it’s not the best place to cozy up and hunker down if you have a rare work-from-home day (or taxes to do, ugh). They also have another location on H Street!
