Cure Your Hangover (Without a Cheeseburger)

We’ve all been there – last night was great, but, the next morning? Yeah, not so great.

Classic cures include greasy foods like cheeseburgers, pizza, french fries, and wings. Contrary to popular belief, there are other hangover foods that can reinvigorate you, while still making you feel like a real person.

Here are our top 3 favorite not-so-bad-for-you hangover food cures!

1) Avocado
Avocado is paaacked with potassium. What does that mean? Well, potassium combats dizziness and muscle weakness. It also has B6, which helps your body to replenish lost vitamins and kick starts your ability to rid your system of toxins. Slap it on some toast (E’s favorite) and you have a tasty breakfast that will leave you feeling even better.

2) Tea
Black tea works fine, but if you’re really trying to kick it up a notch try peppermint or ginger tea. These are known for relieving nausea and reducing stomach inflation. If those flavors don’t interest you, try some green tea which is known to improve liver function.

3) Eggs
Eggs have wonderful and hardworking amino acids that boost liver function (which you’ll need), and even helps prevent liver disease. Furthermore, Cysteine (another amino acid) breaks down acetaldehyde, which is what gives you a headache.

And please, for the love of god, avoid orange juice AT ALL COSTS. OJ = citric acid, and will upset an already upset stomach. Actually, avoid anything acidic, including Bloody Marys (boo). What we’re really saying is: you probably shouldn’t go to boozy brunch hungover (though it’s fine to leave hungover).

Bottoms up!
